Why We Created This Course
Years ago, we started creating internal guides and "blawg" articles for our clients, as part of our goal of empowering our clients to understand their legal positions. These were a huge hit, but we knew we wanted to offer more as we grew in our expertise.
In 2021, we started exploring the idea of offering consultative services to our clients, where they could ask unlimited questions for a monthly fee, but we quickly realized that our small team wouldn't have the bandwidth for this offering. Or at least, not at the standard of quality to which we hold ourselves.
But in late 2022, a client reached out to us with a question and expressed frustration that they weren't sure when something was an "attorney question" versus something the could handle on their own. The email read something along the lines of "ugh! I wish there was a class I could take so I wouldn't have to bug you all the time!"
While our clients don't "bug" us, we could certainly understand their frustration, and that there was a need for affordable, accessible, and reliable legal knowledge for non-lawyers. That led to us creating our first course, Labor & Employment Basics, in 2023.
To our great excitement, Labor & Employment Basics has been very successful and we've gotten a lot of positive feedback about it! Once we knew that something like this was possible, it felt like the possibilities were endless. Contract Basics, the course you're reading now, was our next big undertaking.
This course serves as a primer, so that you have an understanding of when something is an attorney question and so you feel empowered to understand your legal situation. However, it should not be used as a replacement for a real, human lawyer. But we'll touch on that more in our next "lesson."
Each course module is built around the common questions and scenarios we've seen as lawyers. However, these lessons are always evolving and we would love to hear your questions, too! Feel free to ask us anything using the comment function on each lesson.
Thank you for being here! We're grateful to be able to offer another course to the public, and we couldn't have done it without you.
