Annual San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance Update

What’s Changed?
If you’re a San Francisco-based employer and you have 20+ employees, you’ll want to pay attention to this update carefully! We’ll make it brief.
There is a local ordinance known as the “Health Care Security Ordinance” that applies to many employers within the city/county of San Francisco. If you are a for-profit employer with 20 or more employees, or a nonprofit employer with 50 or more employees, then this ordinance applies to you.
If you are smaller than this, then it does not apply to you at this time. However, things can always change, so be sure to read any updates about this ordinance that we share in the future, just in case!
This law, which we’ll refer to as the “HCSO”, requires covered employers to spend a minimum amount on health care for covered employees who work eight (8) or more hours per week within the geographic boundaries of San Francisco.
Covered employers are required to contribute different amounts, based on their size. The big change here is simply the contribution amount, which increases annually:
